Well, from seeing his frequent ads I've always inferred that he's collecting
them to re-sell, am I correct Pete?

Having the original packaging and documentation makes for great advertising
on the auction sites, .....giving the impression that the radio was well 
taken of
and only used by little old ladies on Sunday to listen to knitting shows.
