Thanks to all for the information on the TR3 vs TR4.  I am looking for an 
all-tube rig (transceiver or separate transmitter and receiver) that can do 
CW and SSB.  AM is not important, and selectable sideband isn't 
particularly important (if it was restricted to LSB on 80 and 40 and USB on 
20-10, that wouldn't be a deal breaker).

The all-tubes requirement is the main one.  Solid state rectifiers in the 
power supply are OK but otherwise it needs to be all tubes.

So, it sounds like the TR3 is the closer choice.
