I believe you're correct.   I can't find ANY mention of it in the 
operating manual!   The way it's hidden, maybe we're not supposed to 
know about it....  :-)   It IS mentioned in the Service Manual, says to 
set for an 800 Hz tone.   I'll have to look and see if this actually 
sets the offset or if it's just to "match" the sidetone to the offset so 
you "listen in the right place" for transceive.

The manual DOES however say that you adjust the sidetone level with the 
"front panel AF GAIN control".
