Hello,
Fired up a 2-C today that I had bought a year ago (oversea travel) and it
has a problem on receive.
It appears to be an AGC problem. The radio has better "ears" in the slow or
fast position (when receiving CW, there is no difference between slow or
fast like other 2-C's I have used before) when compared to the off position
After the radio has been on for 10 minutes the receive sensitivity starts to
fade. If I switch AGC off and then crank the rf gain, there is a slight pop
in the audio and the receiver again has ears. This fade happens about every
minute or so.
I tried the alignment procedure in the manual and I cannot adjust the
voltage at TP1 (agc voltage) when in the slow position to the specified
minus 1.35 volts, I can only get to minus 1.0 volts. When I switch to the
off position, the AGC voltage goes more negative (minus 2.6 volts). This is
of course with the pot cranked to the end stop.
After I had the radio on for one hour, the sensitivity did not fade, but the
radio had better ears in the slow and fast position compared to AGC off AND
there is no difference in the receive audio in slow or fast position.
Also the AGC voltage could not be adjusted to minus 11 volts when I cranked
the RF gain control counter clockwise. I could only get to minus 8.5 volts.
I have cleaned the switches and all power supply voltages are present (+135,
+92, +12, minus 52 volts, etc).
Any and all help appreciated.
Thanks
Jim
