Actually the only mod an R4C needs is to plug Sherwood 125 Hz, Drake 250 Hz 
and Drake 500 Hz filters into the rear panel sockets.  Then, remove the 
original Drake 1st IF filter and solder in a Sherwood 600 Hz filter.  This disables 
the receiver for ssb (a waste anyway) but makes the R4C just the sweetest, 
sharpest cw receiver you'll ever lay your cw tuning fingers on.  Try it!  You 
won't believe the selectivity and the overall performance.  And the mods are all 
very low tech and amount to less than an hour's work.
