Read it a little closer.....
Para 5.9 step A
"connect PTT line to GROUND at mike jack"
The tx must be keyed before anything will happen.

Subject: [Drake] T4XC Carrier Oscillator, Filter Match, Mod Bal adj
I had very little luck following the procedure in the manual for setting
carrier oscillator, filter match, and modulator balance. I wonder if
there is an
alternate procedure.
My experience: I checked my carrier oscillator and discovered it was
nearly
100 Hz off. I decided to follow the alignment procedure, sec 5.9 in my
manual. Step 1: set carrier balance full CCW. Step 2: Adjust carrier
osc trimmer
(C6) to increase plate current to .1 Amp. No matter how much I tweaked
C6 the
plate current didn't budge. The carrier oscillator frequency was moving
according to my frequency counter but the plate current was not
changing. I should
have stopped there. Instead I tweaked transformers T14, T2, T3 hoping
to see
a peak in plate current as the manual said I would. No change. Now
everything was out of whack. To get it running again for a sched, I put
the carrier
oscillator on frequency fired it up in Tune, tweaked the transformers
for peak
output then set the carrier balance for lowest S meter reading on a
nearby
receiver. This has got to be wrong but the transmitter at least talks.
Does someone have a procedure that works better than the one in the
book?
Thanks,
Jon, K6JEK
