Jeff,
If the switch deck is still useable you may be able to find a pot of the same manufacturer to get a new resistance element.  I did this trick with a TR-4 Audio/RF gain dual pot/switch.  Mfgr was CTS and Antique Electronic Supply had single volume control pots by CTS.  An evening of light finger therapy had it like new.
