[Drake] Drake R4B Audio Pot

On a very variable day near Reading, Pennsylvania:
Recapping (sic) a previous post about the audio gain control on a Drake
R4B, the brass shaft became disconnected from the body of the audio pot
(3K) of my R4B.
Ron Wagner's suggestion to glue it together seemed the best idea, but to do
that I felt that I had to disassemble the pot. Opening the pot revealed
the real problem. The moving brass contact is lace-like and is attached to
a plastic carrier. The plastic carrier is broken and some small pieces are
missing (Perhaps the radio was dropped on its head at some point and the
audio gain shaft took the brunt.).
I'm considering gluing the plastic carrier together and then gluing the
moving brass contact to the plastic.
Any thoughts?
Also, there is lubricant on the plastic parts that I'd like to remove
before I try gluing it. Any suggestions for a "safe" product that will not
damage the plastic? Or, simply wipe the plastic quickly with a solvent and
rinse with water?
Unless, of course, one of you has an audio pot from a parts radio that you
might want to sell....
Thanks for any ideas,
Ron Hunsicker
