Have not opened the transmitter up yet. Decided to get tubes on hand so
I don't have it scattered all over the work bench.
Yes, would easily be a driver. Off resonance plate current at least 380
mil. Same on all bands. (Just checked. 400 mils.) Normal output
this rig about 120 watts, though I use it mostly on CW and hold it down
to about 80-100 watts. Anyway, decided to order full set (except finals)
before I pull the cover. If there is a component other than tubes bad,
I'll find it when I pull the rig, and I have plenty of caps and
resistors already on hand.
Thanks. Will check out the sites mentioned. Meanwhile, plans are to
put the Viking II on Straight Key Night. Tested it last night using the
VFO down around 3540 (don't have any good CW crystals for 80 meters.)
Would prefer to use the Drake, I think, but sitting in front of the
Viking II and the NC-109 sure made me "feel like a kid again" as that's
the rig I had more years ago than I like to think possible. Felt darned
good.
thanks all
