[Drake] suffix letter

Good morning to the list:
The serial numbers on my R-4A's and B's are all suffixed with a letter, =
in my case "B" or "G".
Underneath the chassis the CXR Osc. Xtals are painted Blue or Green.
I find no reference to this in either manual. Transmitter serials =
numbers have the similar codes and painted Xtals.  Can anyone help us =
with the reasoning for this?
