Gary, the price on those receivers have really sky rocketed over the years, un-necessarily so I believe for what the receiver really is...a striped down solid state R-4 ... without the passband .. the Fred Osterman book (shortwave receivers) 1997 puts the used cost at between $250 - $350 as opposed to the R4B/C at $170 - $270 ... Id take an R-4B and a handful of shortwave crystals any day... remembering the R-4B's passband and notch work on AM but the C doesnt... anyway..sorry for the side line..anyway...hope that helps...Tim K8WBL
