This weekend (April 26-27, 2003), the Cherokee County Amateur Radio Club (Jacksonville, TX) will have the 2nd Annual Drakes on the Lake. This is a picnic/swapfest/special event station at Lake Jacksonville. The special event stations will be using R.L. Drake radios (hence "Drakes on the Lake"; hi-hi). More details are on our website (http://www.qsl.net/k5jvl/drakes_on_the_lake.html). The special event is also listed on page 99 of this month's QST. All hams are welcome to attend.
The swapfest will begin at 8 am (maybe sooner) on Saturday morning. Bring any gear you would like to sell and see if there is anything you would want to buy. Stay around for the operation of our special event. We will begin the special event by 10 am that Saturday morning and we will operate until about noon Sunday. It will be a great time to meet everyone.
There will be a test session at 5 pm on Saturday conducted by Mark Roddy (WA5MR). If you or someone you know needs to upgrade or get a ham license, we will be there to administer the tests.
In addition to voice communication, I will be demonstrating on a Drake TR7A some of the newer digital modes (PSK31, MT63, MFSK16, and Hellschreiber) as well as some of the more familiar digital modes (RTTY and SSTV).
Hope to see you there!
