Tony, Your problem sounds alot like dirty contacts and the easiest thing =
to do is clean the bandswitch contacts. Actually clean all contacts =
while you are at it. All sorts of weirdo things can happen when the =
bandswitch is dirty and intermittent. Buy yourself a can of good =
contact cleaner such as Caig DeOxit. Don't use junky TV tuner cleaners, =
it just isn't worth the risk. The boatanchor community has had good =
luck with using Caig DeOxit both in a spray can as well as the pen =
applicator. I have both and I try to use the pen applicator when ever =
possible because it applies the cleaner right where I want it and limits =
the amount of cleaner that might be oversprayed with the can. There are =
some applications where you just can't get to the contacts with the =
applicator, hence the spray can. I also have a small bristle brush that =
I scrub particularly difficult contacts with. No sandpaper, no emery =
paper, just cleaner and maybe a brushing if needed.
I've had several receivers exhibite strange behavior and it was all due =
to dirty bandswitch contacts. One that drove me nuts was when my =
Collins 75A4 would suddenly shift frequency 100 KHz down. I was sure it =
was the crystal. Nope, the bandswitch contacts.
