Ed is correct.  Happily I learned on my first try with a piece of junk and
hearing wonders from some guys at a hamfest.  The dishwasher is for dishes.

There is NO "too soon" on applying water to transformers. Yes, it SOMETIMES
works... but most of the time it is simply a dumb thing to do. I used to
wash Tektronix 545s and the like (for Tek) and about 1 in 3 blew. That's
after considerable care not to spray the xfmr, and 72 hours in an oven.
DON'T DO IT. EVER.
