Hi Guillermo,
I believe your are seeing normal behavior. Transformers will run warmer at
50 Hz, because the reactance of the primary winding is less than at 60 Hz,
and losses in the core are also higher.. Furthermore, the non-linearity in
the current drain you note is also expected. Core losses in transformers
seem to increase quickly at voltages in excess of the rated primary
voltage. I was testing an old Stancor plate transformer the other day and
observed exactly the same thing: that you saw: above 110V, with no
secondary load, the primary current increased rapidly.
