Drake Enthusiasts, For those who expressed an interest in the progress of
the Drake L4B/8877 2KW+retrofit, I have posted digitals and Part 1 of
the "article" describing the progress made thus far on the third in the
series of Drake retrofit projects. This time around, you'll find the
information on my Yahoo web site. In the normal course of events, I
would have submitted the article to 73 Magazine and its plenipotentiary
Wayne Green. We have had an ongoing love/hate relationship for over 40
years that started when he was my neighbor in Brooklyn. However, for
reasons only known to Professor Green, involving the nonpayment of
about $2000 for my past work that was published, I elected a different
venue. How long can one go before one realizes one's getting the
proverbial shaft! Of course there's always QST but they never ever
print anything that their advertisers could even remotely construe as
material that might conceivably loose them a sale. However, I mention
parenthetically that they did accept an article of mine scheduled for
publication in the not too distant future. That deals with rescaling and
customizing meter faces. No problem there with advertisers! Enough of
the history! When you plug into the site, you'll read why the project
was started ass backwards. Consequently, the first of three digitals
address the building of the new power supply. The OEM Drake supply was
OK in its time and for its intended purpose. But RF power output is in
direct relationship to higher levels of voltage and current so it's a
given that a new, more beefier supply is in order. Take a look and see
what I mean. You'll find one digital of the stripped out deck. Others
will be posted with additional annotations just as soon as work
progresses to the next level. There's gardening, fitting out the boat,
baby sitting, and a million more chores that my wife has listed that
impacts on my allotment of waking time so be patient. It's coming. If
you have legitimate questions about some aspect of the project (up to
this point) that may not be clear, don't hesitate to drop me a line.
