[Drake] SOME THOUGHTS ON 240V CIRCUITS

Hi.

If you indeed decide to run a dedicated 240V circuit to the shack, make it a
3 wire circuit, that is 2 hots, neutral and ground. That affords you the
option of running something like a 30S-1 which requires a separate return for
the 120V convenience outlet in the amp power supply section which is provided
for the 32 ( ) power supply. If, for some reason, you decide not to use the
220V, the return also provides for the convenience of installing a splitter
box which will give you 2 additional 120V circuits.

Be aware that even though it works, and the neutral and ground wires run to
the same point in the breaker box in most systems, it is a violation of the
National Electrical Code to use the ground lead for return. One reason for
this is that if a calamity should befall the neutral lead, the ground is
there as a fallback.
