My R4B already surpasses my Icom 706 with the internal preamp "on." I
could use an attenuator pad on the R4b, especially when monitoring the
Maritime Mobile Service Net on 14300, and the high power, broadband guys
get on 14295. I hear them on the R4B all the way up to 14308, and the
same on the 706 with the preamp ON. But with it off, I hear them
splattering only to about 14303, and down to around 14287. I decrease
RF gain on the R4B much of the time. The R4B is certainly sensitive
enough! A preamp would do it far more harm than I'd care to consider!
