If it is in series with the B+ line, it is probably what is called a "glitch
resistor." In the event of a short in the B+ in the amplifier or a sudden
burst of plate current, the glitch resistor protects the tubes and the power
supply. It is particularly important for the tubes to keep the filament
from warping and shorting to the grid. For the power supply, the glitch
resistor will limit current somewhat in the event of a short-circuit and
give the circuit breakers/fuses a sufficient load to blow. It will also
help protect your diode string in the power supply from the extremely high
current.
