I made my first CW QSO two nights ago (at the tender age of 53).
This is the first time I operated CW and I noticed the same sidetone
problem mentioned on the other Drake list (welcome back, zerobeat).
Sidetone is generated by V9a and fed to V9b through a 6.8M resistor shunted
by a diode turned on or off by grid-block keying. I doubt the diode or
resistors are bad, but it could be the electrolytic that bypasses the plate
feed of V9a and V9b to ground. Any sidetone here would be coupled into V10
at a lower level than if it had come through V9b.
Before I go crazy, is this something that always was? After all, it is
pretty weak.
