"Erasers"? ... for contact cleaning ... OK, but .......
That is .... a soft, rubber, non-abrasive eraser.
Avoid those "ink erasers", which will take the
plating off of contacts.
Soft cloths and non-abrasive paper are fine.
But, here again, some paper, like Kleenex,
have abrasives, that could be much for a
thin plating. I would presume that those
eye-glasses wipes, impregnated with a
cleaning solution, would be good? And there,
is good old, expensive, De-Oxit, which I
understand causes minimal damage at large.
(Somehow when I think of cleaning contacts,
I think of what I consider the horror of horrors,
namely those pushbutton switches on the
Zenith TransOceanics. Never met one that
didn't seriously need cleaning, nor one that
was fully clean. Always scratchy.)
There must be a lot of otherwise good equipment
that we stopped using, only from our impatience
with poor contacts in the switches and controls.
At least with the older, particularly tube type,
larger gear, we can get at most of the contacts.
With this tiny stuff made now, can't get at the
contacts: and if you try dousing with some
solvent, who knows what will dissolve.
THERE! is a great subject for a posting ... "How
to Clean the Contacts on your 2" by 2" handheld
3 band transceiver with full receiver coverage,
and not have it disappear completely".
Gee, my TR-7 seems big ... NOW.
