Offering to the Collins reflector and locally first.

The 75A-4 is a beautiful radio refurbished by Howard Mills in 1999, SN
1917, with 4.0, 2.1, and 500 Hz filters and 4:1 vernier. Correspondence
that came along with the receiver indicates it was purchased used on Nov.
13, 1965 at Fort Orange Radio in Albany by Henry Kasper K2GAL (with $100
subtracted for an AF-67 trade-in). In 1967 he contacted Robert Hankus W2VCZ
(who came up with many now-accepted modifications) to inquire about various
mods, and in February 1968 Hankus changed the 1st RF to a 6GM6, changed the
1st mixer to a 6DJ8, changed the 2nd mixer to a 6EA8, modified the IF and
AVC circuits, solid-stated the 5Y3, and did a complete realignment. In
October 1968, Kasper ordered a 2.1 mechanical filter from Collins. In
January 1971 he ordered various small parts, apparently for the 4:1 vernier.

I bought the receiver in the mid-'90s. In May 1999 Howard Mills W3HM
overhauled the receiver electrically (replacing all Black Beauties and
out-of-tolerance components), cleaned and polished the chassis and cans,
repainted the power transformer and choke, bead-blasted and repainted the
cabinet and front panel (including new silkscreened labeling), replaced the
drum decal, performed Collins service updates (e.g. removing B+ from the
mechanical filters), and made various modifications. If some of these had
not already been done by W2VCZ Howard would have included them (e.g.
replacing the 1st RF and 1st and 2nd mixers and reworking the AVC). He
reversed the solid-stating of the power supply. Howard feels that it does
not improve reliability or reduce heat because it requires a hot-running
resistor to drop the higher B+.

Two original manuals, one from October 1955 and one from July 1957. I have
no idea which one actually goes with the receiver, but after all the mods
and updating I'm not sure it matters. Also complete itemization of W3HM work.

Price is $1600 firm, with pickup in the Washington, D.C., area or I will
deliver within 50 miles. No shipping on this baby.

Matching Mort Jones repro 270-G matching speaker, perfect condition, $225
alone or $175 purchased with 75A-4. A-4 buyers get first shot.
