As most of you know, the Red Cross has activated two additional shelters, one of which is Carson High School.

This was done to protect against the confusion that was created Tuesday evening when, all of a sudden, there was a flare-up and an equally sudden order to evacuate dozens of residents....with no place to go.

So yesterday Incline High School and Carson High were initiated as shelters. No clients arrived at either location because there was no repetition of the flare-up. Douglas County ARES responded immediately to the request for communications. Will (KD7NIR), Daryl (KE7HXD) and Robert (KI6CPW) were on site, on time (early) and as requested.

We can assume ARC will want radio operators each afternoon, initiating at 1700 until approx. midnight. This will continue until ARC is authorized to shut down these shelters. Should activity increase we are advised that additional shelters will be made available.

ARC does not "open and close" shelters as needed. Once a shelter is opened it stays open and manned, with or without clients. Thus the necessity for radio operators each day. The hours for us are based on the highest potential for clients at the shelter - during the afternoon wind changes and increase - until the shelters receive clients. Once that happens (if, indeed, it does) they will request operators 24/7.

Manning Carson High this evening is taken care of, allowing all to attend the SIERA - PEX potluck.

It would be swell to have a basic understanding of who might be available Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, especially the 1700-2400 timeframe. They do not expect full fire containment until July 3, so we need to be prepared to that point.

Please review your schedules and let me know when you might be available, especially the indicated timeframe, but also all day and all night for the next several days.

"Maybe" will work - just need to get a handle on it.

Thanks to all.
