DARA Clubhouse, 6619 Bellefontaine Rd. Dayton, OH 45424.  The meeting begins around 7pm.

Steve Coy, K8UD will discuss the upcoming TechFest (2/14-15) and show off the kit the kids will build. He is redoing the assembly instructions as the ones that come with the kit are poor. He has come up with 3 different methods and at the presentation, TNG volunteers will build each method to see which works best. If you are planning on helping the kids, this will give you an opportunity to review the kit build process.

The presentation begins around 7:30.

We are looking for presentations. If you have something you would like to share, please let me know.

License Exam Quiz #354

de Steve, AE8AT

This quiz is inspired by some names written on the white board in the DARA Clubhouse classroom. Thanks to whoever you are! The names all were engaged in computers to some extent, some in software others in hardware. Lynn Conway is one, and happens to have a January 1938 birthday! Lynn holds U.S. Patent 5,046,022 for Very Large-Scale Integration (VLSI). The patent isn’t titled as such, but her work changed chip design from pencil and paper drawings to using software to design the placement of billions of transistors. This enabled modern CPUs and GPUs, memory chips, ASICs, and system-on-chip. Her honors include the Achievement Award of the Society of Women Engineers, the Franklin Institute’s John Price Wetherill Medal, the James Clerk Maxwell Medal (IEEE and the Royal Society of Edinburgh), and IBM’s Lifetime Achievement Award. I often mention when an inventor had a background a little different, such as poverty or royalty, so I will include Lynn’s as well. Lynn was one of the first to receive modern transgender surgery when he, now she, was a young adult.
