Japan Surrenders. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII. Bockscar was a typical Silverplate, a B-29 stripped of armor and other equipment and with high performance engines to allow it to carry Fat Man from Tinian to Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. President Truman announced the surrender August 14 and Emperor Hirohito’s radio broadcast was August 15 on the other side of the dateline. Formal documents were signed 2 September 1945. The B-29 had an X-band radar that allowed it to conduct bombing runs when clouds obscured the target. That runs roughly 8-12 GHz so we’re looking at GHz questions!
