i have two comments about the exam questions:
First, the Hilbert transform is used to generate an in-phase-
quadrature phase pair from a "real-only" signal, and is used
only in certain architectures. The most basic operation of
generating an SB signal from voice, at least, is simple
frequency translation, which can be implemented without
a Hilbert transform or any other fancy footwork- thus,
the existence of so-called "filter-type SSB transmitters".
2nd one, an old piece of humor from the 1960's and
thereabout. 1 dB was noted to be the typical amount
by which a teen would reduce the volume of his radio
or phonograph when yelled at to "turn that damn thing
down!". How many of you remember this era?
