License Exam Quiz #378

de Steve, AE8AT

As we continue to celebrate the “changing of the test pools” we are drawing three questions from the NEW technician test pool. These questions might appear on exams beginning July 1st.We haven’t done a Tesla quiz in at least 4 years. Born July 10, 1856 in Smiljan, Croatia (at the time, near the military frontier of the Austrian Empire). He immigrated to the United States in 1884 to work for Thomas Edison. He obtained U.S. citizenship in 1891. He famously championed AC power over Edison favoring DC power for power transmission. The Tesla Coil is probably his most famous invention, which he called a resonant transformer. Tesla realized that having a transmitter and receiver tuned to the same resonant frequency would allow information to be exchanged wirelessly. In 1898 he demonstrated remote control of a boat. Additional areas that Tesla contributed to include hydropower, broadcasting electricity that everyone could access for free, fluorescent and neon lights, x-rays, lasers, and more. The unit of measure named in his honor is a measure of magnetic flux, with 1 Tesla being equal to 1 Weber per square meter. https://www.energy.gov/articles/top-11-things-you-didnt-know-about-nikola-tesla

G5A12 What occurs in an LC circuit at resonance?
A. Current and voltage are equal
B. Resistance is cancelled
C. The circuit radiates all its energy in the form of radio waves
D. Inductive reactance and capacitive reactance cancel

E1D03 What is a space telecommand station?
A. An amateur station located on the surface of the Earth for communication with other Earth stations by means of Earth satellites
B. An amateur station that transmits communications to initiate, modify, or terminate functions of a space station
C. An amateur station located in a satellite or a balloon more than 50 kilometers above the surface of the Earth
D. An amateur station that receives telemetry from a satellite or balloon more than 50 kilometers above the surface of the Earth
