DARA JULY 9th General Membership Meeting DETAILS
DARA Membership Meeting July 9
The next DARA Membership in-person meeting will take place Friday July 9, 2021, at 7:00pm at the Greene County Fairgrounds and Expo Center in the Assembly Hall (Hamvention Forums 1 & 2). Use the Assembly Hall parking lot for easy access. A Zoom session will be incorporated in this in-person meeting as we did at the last meeting. Instructions are at the end of this notice.
Al Torres will be our guest speaker this month. His presentation will be “Viewing Radio Waves: The Carbon Magic.” Al has been a Ham since 1962 and is a member of DARA. He received a BSEE, MSEE, and Doctorate in Engineering from UD. He has an MS in Engineering Management. His specialty is Antennas. He has done research for the military in antennas and antenna measurements.
We will also continue the election process for DARA Board of Trustees at this meeting. Larry Sack, Election Committee Chair will report the committee’s nominations for each office and accept additional nominations from the floor.
We welcome all members and guests to our meeting. We will be following the same rules for Covid that apply to the clubhouse. We would recommend that unvaccinated members attending any meetings to follow the State of Ohio and the CDC guidelines such as wearing a mask and practice social distancing. Anyone who is showing symptoms of illness should not be attending the meeting. There will not be a requirement to wear a mask but those who wish to wear a mask are certainly permitted to do so.
See everyone at the DARA Membership Meeting In-Person at the Greene County Expo Center, NOT at Kettering Rec Center!

License Exam Questions of the week
One question is drawn from each of the three question pools. Steve, AE8AT, is providing these questions. Thanks Steve
Answers are at the end of this email. week #149
The plan for the quiz was to transition quiz topics from SSB modulation to AM. Seems the question pools are more concerned with broadcast AM than with its use in amateur radio.
T7B02 What would cause a broadcast AM or FM radio to receive an amateur radio transmission unintentionally?
A. The receiver is unable to reject strong signals outside the AM or FM band
B. The microphone gain of the transmitter is turned up too high
C. The audio amplifier of the transmitter is overloaded
D. The deviation of an FM transmitter is set too low
G8A11 What is the modulation envelope of an AM signal?
A. The waveform created by connecting the peak values of the modulated signal
B. The carrier frequency that contains the signal
C. Spurious signals that envelop nearby frequencies
D. The bandwidth of the modulated signal
E4E11 What could cause local AM broadcast band signals to combine to generate spurious signals in the MF or HF bands?
A. One or more of the broadcast stations is transmitting an over-modulated signal
B. Nearby corroded metal joints are mixing and re-radiating the broadcast signals
C. You are receiving skywave signals from a distant station
D. Your station receiver IF amplifier stage is defective
