License Exam Questions of the week
One question is drawn from each of the three question pools. Steve, AE8AT,
is providing these questions. Thanks Steve
Benjamin Franklin was born 17 January 1706. As a Founding Father of the
United States, history long remembers Franklin. As a diplomat, he managed
to create an alliance among Britain, France and the U.S. at a time when we
threw off the crown with France's aid. Not bad. In the 1740's Franklin
performed scientific experiments with electricity. This quiz will focus on
batteries because Franklin developed a means to store electricity. As often
happens, one question pool complicated the quiz theme - the Extra pool does
not have a battery question. The Extra question contains the word
"discharge" which Britannica.com credits Franklin with being the first to
apply electronics, and because batteries discharge.
T6A10 Which of the following battery types is rechargeable?
A. Nickel-metal hydride
B. Lithium-ion
C. Lead-acid gel-cell
D. All of these choices are correct
G6A01 What is the minimum allowable discharge voltage for maximum life of a
standard 12 volt lead-acid battery?
A. 6 volts
B. 8.5 volts

E5B01 What is the term for the time required for the capacitor in an RC
circuit to be charged to 63.2% of the applied voltage or to discharge to
36.8% of its initial voltage?
A. An exponential rate of one
