Hi Gang...

George asked me to send out the notice this week, so you won’t be seeing a
lot of the extra info he usually provides. I'll fill in the space with my
own extra, and possibly useless, info for this week.

The entertainment this week will be Chuck Gelm, NC8Q presenting:

PAT (a Winlink email clone) using Telnet and ARDOP(a software modem), with
the Icom IC-7300.
This presentation covers obtaining, installing, and configuring the
individual
Pat, ARDOP soft-modem, and rigctl software items.

Thanks to the efforts of Ron Cramer and Jack Gerbs, DARA now has its own
Zoom license. Responding quickly to my somewhat last minute request to see
if they could set us up for this week, they burned some midnight oil to get
things in place for us. Of course, there is a greater good to be had in that
they also wanted to use Zoom for Board and Planning Council meetings, and
possibly even the general membership meetings while we are constrained to
all live separate lives together.
So thanks to Ron and Jack!

I also want to thank ARRL Ohio Section Manager Scott Yonally for allowing
TNG to use his Zoom license the past two weeks.

For those who might not know about Zoom, it is an internet audio/video
conferencing app that has become very popular in recent weeks with the 'now
working at home' crowd. If you have a camera on your computer, others logged
in will see your smiling face and hear your radio announcer voice. If you
are in your shack, they'll see the stack of radios you have accumulated and
be impressed! You do have control over if/when your audio and video are sent
out, so you don’t have to be seen or heard if you're bashful.

You may also be aware that Zoom has recently been found to have some
security issues, mostly regarding who can join a meeting. The Zoom folks
have been pushing updated versions out to the user base which seem to have
added greater control for the meeting host to permit or expel participants,
as well as adding a password requirement. It might not be foolproof yet, but
it is evolving. Zoom's CEO was quoted the other day as saying they didn't do
it as well as they could have, but they are trying to address the problems.
Not all of the problems are with the app; some are just people who seem to
want to cause trouble.

Below are the particulars for the DARA licensed Zoom meetings that I have
set up for the next few weeks. Note that the starting time is 6:30 PM, but
that is only so that the meeting app will be assured to be up and running by
7 PM. There is no need to check in before 7, except to chat with any other
eager beavers who might also want to be the first on their block. By now you
should all be quite aware that nothing starts at TNG until sometime after 7!
I've also setup for the meeting to run quite long for those TNG folks who
often hang out until sunrise.

In some cases, you can join the meeting using your web client, such as IE,
Edge, or Firefox. In other cases, and this is much nicer to use, there is a
,exe file that you can download and install on your machine. I know that
Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android are supported, and probably a couple of
others. They all work about the same but each has a somewhat different UI
and they don’t all appear to support the exact same feature set. I'm sure
they are working on that as the complaints come in 😉.

You can also check in via calling one of the numbers below, but this will
be audio only.
