Things this week:

1. YAGI Antenna workshop part 3

This Thursday - April 18 - Driven Element Options

Join us for a Build-It: Yagi Antenna Workshop. This multi-session series
will focus on yagi antennas the vhf/uhf frequency bands, including designs
for ATV and EME. But HFers will also gain by attending.

This series will start with a good overview on antennas. The next session
will look at the function of a balun, the different types, and actually do
some testing of baluns. We'll look at how to select your build-it yagi, and
present some easy-to-assemble options for the driven element. For the
hands-on building, you can build your own, build with a group, or be an
observer.

The final sessions will include tuning and testing the yagi antennas, and if
there is interest, could include an antenna gain measurement event to verify
how well the antennas perform.

This 7 session course is planned to run every other week and will run for 7
sessions.

Here is the proposed schedule:

3. License Exam Questions of the week

One question is drawn from each of the three question pools. Steve, AE8AT,
is providing these questions. Thanks Steve

Answers are at the end of this email.

We received a question regarding the strange mix of letters and numbers that
begin each question. Every exam question has a unique combination of
letter-number-letter-number. The first letter is a T, G, or E to identify
the question pool: Technician, General, or Extra. Next is a single number
representing the category, for example, category zero is safety in all three
exam pools. The first letter-number pair is called the "sub-element". The
second letter is a "group" containing related questions. Example,
sub-element G8 is Signals and Emissions, with group C of that sub-element
being Digital Emission Modes. The questions are numbered sequentially:
G8C01, G8C02, and so forth always with a 2-digit number at the end. The
question identity is included in case of a typo or some "help" from
autocorrect obscures either the question or the answer.

This quiz should reach you about a month before HamventionR opens. The
event is volunteer run by your fellow Dayton Association club members. If
you would like to lend support to the club, volunteers at hamvention.org or
the www.Hamvention.org webpage has a special page for volunteers.
Following the theme, this quiz this week is questions having to do with the
volunteers. This hobby depends people giving their time and resources to

create new licensees, run the club, and many other things.including
