[I apologize if you receive this message multiple times, as I am trying to
spread the word as widely as possible]

Hello Southwest Ohio Hams,

I am organizing the DARA-sponsored Amateur Radio Pavilion at the Dayton
Mini Maker Faire (http://dayton.makerfaire.com) at Carillon Historical
Park, August 5-6 (9:30am-5pm on Sat, and 11am-4pm on Sun).

After a successful single day Maker Faire last summer where we had 2500
attendees, we have expanded to a two day event. There is no additional
admission fee for the Maker Faire, but Carillon Park will charge their
daily fee ($8 for ages 18-59, $7 for 60+, $5 for 3-17, and under 3 free).
If you volunteer, you will get in for free!

Here are the areas where we are looking for volunteers to fill up our 4
20'x20' tents:

Crystal/FM radio kit building (no soldering) assistance (identical to the
TechFest kit building activity)

Homebrew radio/electronics projects (even half finished ones are
encouraged, so you can show your construction process). Any projects
displayed at DARA Homebrew Nights would be perfect! Several projects from
the DARA Thursday Night Group will be featured.

Software receiver dongle (http://www.rtl-sdr.com/) RTL-SDR project
demonstrations and vending. We will have 150 of these to sell for $5 each
(one per family) and 25 for $10 (slightly upgraded version).

DARA communications van / XWARN communications trailer

Portable HF, VHF/UHF operating - we will be under some large trees and have
been allowed to put up wire antennas over any branches we choose!
Satellite QSOs would be very exciting to demonstrate. Digital/CW/voice
modes are all encouraged. APRS displays, Raspberry Pi beacons/receivers
are other ideas that come to mind.

Hamvention booth - help share the message about ham radio's largest
gathering!

Ham radio smartphone apps (EchoLink, repeater locators, dx spotting,
propagation conditions, remote radio control, etc.). The next generation
of ham radio operators are very familiar with smartphones - let's show them
how their devices can be utilized with and for ham radio operating.

Before the event you can help spread the word about Dan Romanchik's (KB6NU)
free one-day technician license class (9am-3:30pm). We currently have many
reservations for the Sunday class and may also offer a Saturday class if we
get a few more signups. Encourage your family/friends to sign up for the
class at http://dayton.makerfaire.com/kb6nus-1-day-tech-class/

The DARA/Laurel VE team will be offering free testing in the Iams Room (no
Maker Faire admission required) after each class that is offered.

We will also have demonstrations from the Miami Valley Mesh Alliance (MVMA)
and Jeremy (KF7IJZ) co-host of the HamRadio360 Workbench podcast.

If you are interested in volunteering (and getting free Maker Faire
admission) for any of the activities mentioned above, please email me at
evinande at gmail.com or call/text on the cell number listed below and let me
know what hours you are available.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I look forward to hearing
from you!

Feel free to forward this message to other lists/groups as you see fit.

73,
Eric Vinande
