We started design & planning stages for this display for a few weeks.
We are using Mitch’s Swim Meet Display as the test bed for the Hamvention Prize Display. Tom Holmes, Prize Chairman, was in on some of the discussions and is aware of it.
If we can get the parents to bring the kids we will gladly involve them.

Subject: Giant Display for Hamvention
As you all know, we had a VERY big problem this year with the sound system at HARA. Calling out the winning numbers was a real challenge for everyone to hear. After the show, Jeff Ullery approached me and suggested we erect a white board to write out the winning ticket numbers on. I replied that it was a good idea but would be impractical because it could not be seen everywhere in the arena. I then challenged the youths to come up with giant 4 sided 5 digit display that could be easily erected in the prize booth. The numbers would then be called out and scanned for the display. This is similar to your Swim Meet Display project but on a grandeur scale as the display must be readable from the far side of the arena (about the length of a football field). I've already discussed this with a few board members and we think this would be a great project for the youth to build over the summer. I would like to have the TNG involved in both the design and mentoring of the youth to build it. This would be a great way for them to use their Raspberry Pis and Arduinos that they have won over the last year. I can get money (within reason, of course) from the Planning Council and the Board for this project IF the TNG and youths are serious enough to take it on.
Are you ready for the challenge?
