TNG (Thursday Night Group):
We had a good group discussion last evening regarding "potential" DIY construction projects for the TNG. Attendees came up with some great suggestions which ranged from the easy to complete (one evening) projects to some which could prove rather challenging. I believe no matter what projects we choose to take on, fun will be had by all.
The group made a list of suggestions on the B-Road white board and I have copied those project items from the white board to this email for your review. The list is just a starting point from our discussion and by no means is intended to be all encompassing...
1. Frequency Generator
2. 60 MHZ Frequency Counter
3. Build your own Oscilloscope
4. Digital (Digi) Interface kits (Computer sound card to Radio interface)
5. APRS I-Gate
6. Raspberry PI projects
7. Mobile heads up display for D-STAR (George Ewing's contribution! J) Sorry George, just couldn't pass up the opportunity for a good laugh!
8. Satellite projects (CubeSat , etc.)
9. PIC Controller Projects
10. Antenna Projects (Build Antennas; Satellite, J-Pole, Colinear, Walking Stick, 5/8 wave 70 cm and 2 m Antenna's, etc.)
11. Power Supplies (Build from scratch and how to modify your Computer Power Supplies for bench use)
12. Software Defined Radios (SDR's) (modifying USB TV Dongles, build your own SDR kits, etc.)
13. Antenna Tuner (Build your own, theory of operation)
14. HF Triplexer (June, 2010 QST) also good DIY HF beam article (Sept, 2002 QST)
15. Alternative Power Systems (Solar, Wind, Alternative Fuels Generator (Propane, Natural Gas, Alcohol, Wood Gasifier, Etc.) Proper conditioning of alternative power systems (UPS's, power conditioners, Etc.), Energy Storage
16. 2 Meter pre amp kits
17. Rig Runner Power Pole's
18. DIY Rotors, Controllers, Satellite trackers, etc.
If anyone has any additional ideas, please feel free to add them to the list and forward them to the group.
I know I had a great time exploring ideas with everyone, last evening, and can't wait to get started on our first group project.
