A quick report...
I have finished the "custom machine work" and installed the 2 foot boom support.  I test fitted the balun and it seems that the curve machined into it dose not match the boom of our antenna.  My thought is that perhaps they put the wrong one in the box.  (which would also explain the hole being tapped incorrectly)  
I will be attending a school function with my children this Thursday and will either be very late or not in attendance.  Perhaps after checking out the fit of the balun the group may wish to contact the antenna supplier.  I will leave that to discus amongst yourselves.
