Get Ready – The Annual Flight of the Bumblebees Event is This Sunday.
Anyone who says that there is very little QRP CW activity has not heard about the Flight of the Bumblebees. It seems to me that 218 Bumblebees operating portable in some really great outdoor locations that are in 47 different SPCs shows that there is a lot of interest in QRP CW. All of these Bumblebees will be out there making contacts while using 5 Watts or less.
During this casual QRP CW event, Home Stations are tasked with finding the Bumblebees and working as many as possible, while they too are using only 5 Watts. Home Stations will have a great opportunity work on their QRP CW WAS during the FOBB. Bumblebees will also be working other Bumblebees.
The annual Flight of the Bumblebees will be held on Sunday, July 27 2025, during a four-hour daytime window, from 1700 to 2100 UTC.
You can find all of the details at https://ars-qrp.com. Use the Menu to go the Flight of the Bumblebees page. There you will be able to see where all of the Bumblebees will be located by utilizing the reports that are available there. If you have forgotten your BB Number, you can find it there.
QRP CW Operators who want to go out and setup a portable station at some outdoor location, and become highly sought after 'Bumblebee', will need to obtain a "Bumblebee Number". (Home Stations do not need one). There still time for you to get a BB Number. Go to https://ars-qrp.com. Use the Menu to go the Flight of the Bumblebees page. Scroll down to “Click Here to Obtain Your Bumblebee Number”.
Bumblebee photos may be emailed to [email protected]. The photos received will be added to the ARS-QRP ’2025 Pictures’ web page as time permits.
And after you work the FOBB on July 27th, then get ready for the 2025 Skeeter Hunt on August 17th. This is another great QRP CW outdoor event. Get your Skeeter Number now. Go to: https://w2lj.blogspot.com/p/njqrp-skeeter-hunt.html
I will be a Bumblebee and I will be using 10-15-20-40-80 Meters. My batteries are charged. I expect to be on during the entire four hours. I’m looking forward to working as many of you as I can during the FOBB event.
