Can only give my experience with the general class, when, about 1960. I studied to get my receiving speed well above the requirement. Had no problem with it. I also was given a card to send.  Could always send well. The examiner listened for a minute and gave me the written test.  Was not difficult but I sweated blood anyway.  Could have gone forthe extra class but wanted to get it over and get on the air .
