I remember hearing about a ham who was deaf and a CW operator.  I might have read about him in old an QST or other magazine.   He was said to have an open speaker (no grill or cloth) on his operating desk and used a couple fingers to touch the speaker cone and detect the CW in that way.  

This idea has always stuck with me and I envisioned it as a way to stay in communication if I were ever to go deaf.  I figured it could be a real help if one could develop that skill.
