It seems odd that some folks seem to actually want there to be fewer magazines and organizations in our hobby. 

Individuals don't have to subscribe or belong to any of them, but I suspect the health of our overall hobby depends to a significant degree on the structure and order that facilitates everything we want to do.  When all these anchor points are gone you might notice a big change for the worse in our hobby.
