The TR-A transmitter freq shows 8350 kc and 5515 kc on the transmitter crystal selector.

Coupled with a regen receiver with a tuning knob, certainly could have been a good little backup rig. So now days it would probably be called a trans-receiver vs transceiver. 

Maybe I missed something but there seems to be no headphones jack, could there be a built-in speaker !?!

Doesn't matter to me what it is called, it is possibly the beginning of portable radio.
