Probably he is on this list. I am ashamed a name I thought I'd never forget has evaporated from my glacial memory.

It's a VibroKeyer modified to be a sideswiper. A friend made the finger piece out of dark brown wood, countersunk a hole for the unusual (to me) two dimpled flat fastener and gave me a two pronged screwdriver to remove it. Do you know the name of such two dimpled fasteners?

Hi Walter,

The two bugs Deluxe and Standard are wired in today's versions - the 1948 to 1980 version of the Deluxe had an additional braid wire from the base of the frame to the lever arm - it bypassed the non-conducting jeweled bearings.

If one is Deluxe, it has a jeweled bearing and the cup is round and has a reddish jewel at the base, the trunnion pin is shaped like an elbow to fit it.

The Standard Vibroplex has sharp but rounded pins - you can see both here. http://www.vibroplex.com/techdocs/jeweled_movement_faq.pdf

Note the reddish color in the 3rd picture.

My photography was going to show you what happens when the old style adjustable top screw (as they originally had in 1948) is used and someone tightens up on the screw - the jewel breaks.

I had a good photo of the remains of the reddish jewel but it just fell out so all I had on my first message was the shape of the jeweled bearing housing. Just the housing except for a hint of the red jewel in the center.

Here's what tke key looked like before.

The key is now upgraded to the correct top part.
