Here's an explanation from Chuck Olson - WB9KZY of Jackson Harbor Press
about Mode A / Mode B. File attached.
*I use Mode A *and I use a genuine Curtis keyer chip - like MFJ has in some
of their keyers.
Other manufacturers who manufactured Mode A did it incorrectly and you can
complete a character and still make an error.
In correct Mode A once a character is sent and you let go, there's no extra
dot or dash. That's the way I want it.
*I use Mode A and I recommend it because it causes fewer errors if your
timing is off.*
