The local RCA station here was KSE. I used to listen to 500Khz wiht
a simple regen receiver, actually the detector from a General Radio
frequency measuring rig. KSE used MCW on 500Khz. They would call CQ for
TFC LIST, the modulation would come on as they sent, missing perhaps the
first CQ, like the filaments of the oscillator were off until they
started sending. He would announce the list and his working frequency.
This was not a very sensitive receiver and KSE was not far away. I
did hear local ships and probably other stations but don't remember
which ones.
Anyone who has done any broadcast DX'ing knows that those low
frequencies have tremendous range at night.
