An excellent idea.
Well worth it.
I made a permanent ground screen for my 18HT Hy-Gain HyTower - now MFJ and
as soon as I did I started hearing VK and ZL at sunset with S9 signals. I
was shocked at the difference between a few radials and 30 with a ground
screen of 15 feet covering the immediate area around the vertical.
The vertical was the best antenna for 160 and 80 meters, no question. On 40
meters and shorter wavelengths, horizontal beams worked better except when
I installed a three element top (and bottom) loaded vertical yagi from HF
ANTENNAS FOR ALL LOCATIONS by Moxon RSGB press.
