Yes, he bought it from PreWi. Later, PreWi merged with Globe Wireless, but
that was in the 1960s.

There's a really good article here:
https://www.tmchistory.org/PressWireless/Prewi_company_history.htm

In the notes there are references to articles by Donald K. De Neuf, WA1STM,
President of Press Wireless, an excellent CW operator and gifted writer.

In the 1980s after Hank W1HRQ led the Society of Wireless Pioneers net
around 14,115 kHz, Don would call for PreWi and what a great bunch of guys.
There was a N5??? station who was PreWi's code champ and he said that he
could copy fast than Ted Mcelroy, also in the group was W6AUH, Dalton J.
Bergstedt who was with Mackay Radio if I am not mistaken. Dalt attended one
of the first Night of Nights operations from KPH in Point Reyes, CA.

Talk about legendary Vibroplex operators!

These guys sent so beautifully tears would come to my eyes.

I worked them every afternoon when I was maritime mobile in the Gulf of
Mexico on SS COVE TRADER /KRBY.
