CW QSOs with the Morserino via internet
Sharp tongued people say that sending Morse via the Internet has nothing to
do with Amateur Radio. On the one hand, this is true, but training to make
QSO’s via the Internet is perfect preparation for telegraphy on the bands.
A great advantage also is that, you do not need any antenna. To learn
Morse, using Morserino (morserino.info) on your computer etc, you just need
to have Internet via WLAN. Budding telegraphists without a licence (and
those who want to improve), have the opportunity to have CW QSOs with
minimum fuss.

I myself, have learned Morse, amongst other things, using Morserino but I
have not used it via the Internet yet, although I have been a member of the
facebook group Morserino Skeds (
https://www.facebook.com/groups/592126294816800) for a long time. After
all, I have an Amateur Radio licence and a radio, so there is no need to
use telegraphy via the Internet, is there?

In November 2022, the Administrator of the facebook group Morserino Skeds,
David Bamford, (W2DAB) said that he no longer had any interest in the group
and if someone did not take charge of it, he would let it die.

Spontaneously, I decided to take it over and emailed David. He added me as
Administrator.

The first thing that I had to learn was, how to actually use Morserino via
the Internet! . On the Facebookgroup, I enquired about it and very soon
after, I received a video tutorial on how to operate it. A short test after
setting it up, using cq.morserino.info, confirmed that everything was in
order.

Now it was time to get the ball rolling and inject some action into the
group! I made a suggestion about having a daily training session and it was
agreed that most of the active members thought that 6 pm UTC was the most
convenient time. Less than 10% of the 241 members are active on a daily
basis and it was hoped that a minimum of 2 members would be on line at any
time. I myself, can not guarantee that I will be active every day as I am
extremely busy with my job.

In the last days I had a few very nice practice QSOs on cq.morserino.info.
Another advantage of telgraphy via Internet is, you just need Internet via
WLAN, the Morserino and optionally a Morse key. Using this method, I have
found a way to be able to practice telegraphy on a business trip without
lavish radio equipment and huge antennas.

Böse Zungen behaupten immer wieder, dass Senden via Internet nichts mit
Amateurfunk zu tun hat. In diesem Fall ist es zwar tatsächlich so aber
Übungs-QSOs via Internet sind eine hervorragende Vorbereitung für die
Telegraphie auf den Amateurfunkbänkern. Außerdem hat man nicht immer und
überall die Möglichkeit eine Kurzwellenantenne aufzubauen. Für den
Morserino (morserino.info), einem CW Lerncomputer mit vielen Möglichkeiten,
wird nur Internet via WLAN benötigt und so können auch nichtlizensierte
Telegraphisten (und die, die es gerade werden wollen) Telegraphie QSOs
führen.
Ich habe zwar Telegraphie unter anderem mit dem Morserino gelernt aber ich
habe bis vor kurzem die Möglichkeit zu telegraphieren via Internet nicht
genutzt, wenn ich auch schon eine ganze Zeit Mitglied der Facebookgruppe
Morserino Skeds (https://www.facebook.com/groups/592126294816800) bin. Ich
habe schließlich eine Amateurfunklizenz und ein Kurzwellengerät und daher
gar keinen Bedarf via Internet zu telegrafieren. Oder vielleicht doch?
Im November 2022 schrieb der Admin der Facebookgruppe Morserino Skeds,
David Bamford (W2DAB) dass er aufgrund mangelnder Aktivität die Gruppe
abgeben wolle. Sollte sich niemand finden, würde er die Gruppe sterben
lassen. Spontan antwortete ich, dass ich bereit wäre, die Gruppe zu
übernehmen. David fügte mich als Admin hinzu und ich fragte mich, wie ich
überhaupt über das Internet an QSOs teilnehmen kann. Diese Frage stellte
ich in die Gruppe und ich erhielt schnell eine Videoanleitung, wie ich
meinen Morserino konfigurieren muss. Ein kurzer Test nach der Einrichtung
zeigte, dass ich alles richtig gemacht hatte und nun QSOs via
cq.morserino.info führen konnte.
Nun war es Zeit, die Gruppe wieder mit Leben zu füllen. Ich schlug vor,
einen täglichen Termin einzurichten, um eine Übungsmöglichkeit zu bieten.
Eine Umfrage ergab, dass die meisten aktiven Gruppenmitglieder 18:00 Uhr
UTC bevorzugen würde. Allerdings fällt auch auf, dass von den 241
Mitgliedern maximal 10% wirklich aktiv sind. Ich verkündete also, dass wir
uns jetzt täglich um UTC 18:00 Uhr auf cq.morserino.info treffen werden und
hoffentlich immer mindestens zwei Telegraphisten online sein werden, da ich
nicht zusichern kann, dass ich jeden Tag um die Zeit online sein kann.
In den letzten Tagen hatte ich einige nette Übungs-QSOs auf
cq.morserino.info. Das Schöne an dieser Art der Telegraphie via Internet
ist, dass man nur den Morserino und ggf. eine Morsetaste, sowie WLAN
benötigt, um zu telegraphieren. Somit habe ich für mich eine unkomplizierte
Möglichkeit gefunden, ohne aufwändige Funktechnik auch auf Dienstreisen vom
Hotel aus CW Betrieb machen zu können.
