I mean this seriously, if anyone has fat fingers, and you can measure
the thickness, send that information to Piero Begali I2RTF
<begali at i2rtf.com> as he needs to make the extra dash paddle spaced a
wee bit more than the fattest finger.
I have enlarged knuckles so I'm sending Piero the measurement of 23mm
- that's the minimum spacing that the two paddle faces can be apart
from each other for the key to work for me. I measured the widest
measurement with the fingernail pointing upwards, so in use the needed
measurement would be slightly less. A few extra mm is needed for
comfortable use as the finger is not supposed to fit between the two
dash paddles so it cannot move but too much space between the paddles
prevents accurate use - I have a prototype key made by Eric Jorgensen,
KE6US and when the spacing is too wide, it prevents easy "dashing" or
going back and forth between the two dash paddles in an alternating
fashion. It's just too wide and to compensate Eric made me wider
paddles but that was uncomfortable to use.
The two dash paddles are only in use for letters and numbers with two
consecutive dashes M, G, Z, W, P, J, O, "CH", "," ":","(",")", 1, 2,
3, 7, 8, 9 and 0. It excels at sending numbers!
