My Speed-X bug is nearly identical to the model 501 shown in
the catalog with two exceptions: Mine has a standard knob on the
dash side and an unsymmetrical dot paddle and does not have the
terminal or whatever it is near the center of the base. The dot
paddle can be mounted facing upward or downward. I have the
original box. From the position of the brace in the box the
paddle came with the high side point upward.  Unfortunately a
corner of the label was torn off (long ago) so I don't know the
city of manufacture but I am pretty sure mine is a pre-Les Logan
key. Mine does not have the pig tail for connecting the vibrator.
It is, however, the slowest bug I have, not down to 8 WPM but
maybe 12. It is actually a very nice key. The catalog gives me a
better idea of the date than I had before.
I find the selection of receivers interesting. Of course
Hallicrafters, being a Chicago company, would be well
represented. This must have been just before the SX-28 was
produced. Note that the bug in the SX-23 illustration is the
Speed-X 501.
