An excellent video about Cape Race Newfoundland Radio/MCE and Titanic/MGY.
In the early years, M was the call sign of Marconi radio installations, it
still exists today and is a call signs block MAA-MZZ for radio stations of
the United Kingdom.
Notice the excellent quality and speed of a professional first-class
radiotelegrapher. He's sending approximately 24-25 WPM with a hand key.
The Chief Radio Officer on passenger ships had to pass a government test of
sending and receiving at least 25 words per minute by hand transmitted by a
straight key for one minute solid out of five minutes sent, with a maximum
of three total errors. Errors in sending were permitted as long as they
were corrected with an error signal, the last correctly sent word or code
group was transmitted again, and the sending continued with the examination
text. The receiving test was one minute correct out of five minutes of
Morse transmitted, copied legibly with pencil and paper.
