There used to be an article about early police radio, I think it was on the
Motorola web sight. The first was in Detroit, progressed from broadcasting
to the cars and call boxes to respond and on to the two-way radio systems.
I knew one of the old CW ops from Michigan State police, a local ham to
Lansing, MI. He became an SK a few years ago. Many interesting stories
over the years of doing work with many law enforcement organizations.
Of course, they were not on CW only. One family friend was a State Trooper
in the Michigan upper peninsula and a ham. When he came to visit in Lansing,
he loved to tell tails of communications problems on high band FM like
driving a few feet to contact the posts.
